The Sirha Budapest International Food Industry Exhibition has opened
The Sirha Budapest International Food Industry and HoReCa Trade Fair opened on Tuesday at Hungexpo. Minister of Agriculture István Nagy said at the opening that the government sees Hungarian agriculture and the food industry as a strategic sector, and historic amounts of resources are being used to strengthen and develop the sector.
He pointed out that the calls for tenders for the food industry subsidies approved in the KAP Strategic Plan will be discussed in March. After that, they will be able to call for tenders for a total of 200 billion forints in support for the food industry, of which 50 billion are aimed at supporting the small-scale development of processing plants, and 150 billion at the support of complex developments – explained the minister.
About the exhibition, he said that visitors can not only get to know the finest values of the Hungarian land at the gastronomy fair, but it is also the place where producer and consumer, seller and buyer can meet. The cooperation between agriculture, which produces excellent raw materials, and the food industry, which increases its competitiveness, is able to supply the population with high-quality, Hungarian food, he underlined.
He touched on the fact that in the second half of this year, during the Hungarian EU presidency, there will be important tasks in regulatory issues affecting food and the food industry. Among these, he singled out the rules for food labeling and the fight against food waste.
