Pro Form Ltd. and the University of Technology have developed an increased heat-resistant PET packaging material
Pro-Form Industrial and Commercial Ltd. has jointly developed a PET packaging material with increased heat resistance with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and the project has been awarded a non-refundable EU grant of HUF 565.4 million under the Economic Development and Innovation Operative Program (GINOP Plusz), the company informed MTI on Thursday.
The aim of the project, implemented in a consortium, was to develop a development that enables the production of PET packaging materials that meet increased application requirements at a lower price through value-added waste utilization.
As a result of the jointly developed new recipes and production technology, Pro-Form Ltd. can be the first in Hungary to enter the market with high heat-resistant PET trays suitable for heating ready-made meals in the oven
– they announced.
High-temperature-resistant PET packaging products contain a significant proportion of recycled raw materials, up to 85 percent, so they can be fully integrated into the circular economy model.
The products can be manufactured economically with a short cycle time, which also provides a competitive advantage in international terms. The finished product can be safely used between minus 40 and plus 220 degrees, and has adequate rigidity and impact resistance even when stored in the freezer or during baking, the company explained.
