There will not be coal power plant in the Tokaj wine region
The Tőketerebes-based coal power plant can not be built – reports Greenpeace the final decision of the Slovak authorities. The most damaging effects could have affected Hungary the most, particularly Zemplén and Tokaj.
A Slovak company wanted to build a coal power plant, about twenty kilometers from the Tokaj wine growing area. Both sides of the borders protests began against the investment. On the Slovak side, people protested in order to protect the the quality of their life, on the Hungarian side they protested to preserve the Tokaj wine region. The 163 m high chimneys of the planned facility could have release 4 million tons of pollutants into the air each year, most of which – because of the wind direction – could have pollutTokaj’s microclimate – reports Index.
