The Hungarian rosé can survive
The European Commission announced that Brussels does not support the proposal, which would allowed the production of rosé wines combining red and white wine – reports Origo.
The authorization procedure, called 'kupázs' was opposed by Hungarian, French and Italian wine producers effectively. According to Mariann Fischer Boel Minister of Agriculture it became clear that mixing the wines would destroy the traditional image of rosé in the world. Previously European Commission suggested that the wine which is marketed as rosé should be made of mixing red and white wine. So this is a 180-degree turnaround in Brussels current and previous position.
