Corn sowing begins in Zala County
In the middle of April, corn, sunflower and soybeans are sown in Zala County. The planned sowing area of corn is almost 30,000 hectares, and that of sunflower exceeds 5,000 hectares – the county president of the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy (NAK) told MTI.
Farmers want to produce soybeans on almost 12,000 hectares. According to the sowing intention, 700 hectares will be planted with sugar beets, and nearly 600 hectares with oats – Krisztián Sabján indicated.
At the beginning of spring, barley was sown on nearly 2,000 hectares, while wheat was sown on 225 hectares
More than 20,000 hectares of winter wheat and nearly 10,000 hectares of cabbage-rape are grown in the county, explained the NAK county president. Autumn-sown grain and cabbage-rape develop nicely thanks to the adequate amount of rainfall. However, in the south-western part of the county – in the areas affected by inland water – it is in bad condition, and the herd has died out – Krisztián Sabján added. According to his summary, 70 percent of the total sown area in Zala shows a good image, 20 percent medium, and 10 percent poor. He said about the current works, the spring fertilizing and weeding works are being carried out on the corn fields.
Due to the too early warming, farmers are paying special attention to plant protection, as they want to prevent the spread of insect pests
Among the grain diseases, rust and leaf spot infection have appeared on the fields so far. Symptoms of brown and net leaf spot were observed in the barley fields. Protection against fungal diseases and insect pests also takes place in the rape fields. The level of development of the oil plant shows a varied picture; most of the stocks are in a state between green and yellow buds – Krisztián Sabján told MTI.
