In June our cover interview features István Mikos, corporate director of Ceres Zrt., who talks about the company’s developments and export plans for 2025, how respect for tradition is linked to innovation, and how the product itself can become a tool for conscious brand building.
In the opinion column of Chain Bridge Club Zsófia Bánhidi, vice president of corporate relations at the Hungarian Marketing Association – who won the European Marketer of the Year award – reports on her experiences from the competition.
Our main topic in June is the 2024 FMCG retailer ranking, featuring interviews with the representatives of every retail chain. Our first article reveals that the order of the top three hasn’t changed this year: Lidl, SPAR and Tesco are the top three retailers. This is followed by interviews with market players, and then a detailed analysis of changes in consumer expectations, plus we also report on the movements of brands and market developments in the light of data. In our feature interview Bence Gerlaki, state secretary for taxation, consumer protection and trade at the Ministry for National Economy talks about the results of government measures affecting the sector and the challenges ahead. We also present the opinion of the representatives of trade organisations, so that readers can learn about the opinions of the National Trade Association (OKSZ) and the Hungarian National Trade Association (MNKSZ) on the current regulations. András Tállai, state secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture introduces the ministry’s developments affecting the food industry, while Tamás Éder, president of the Federation of Responsible Food Manufacturers (FÉSZ) outlines the viewpoint of the profession. In our articles you can read about the initiatives of the Branded Goods Association Hungary, as presented by secretary general Zoltán Fekete, and about KAVOSZ’s business development and enterprise support programme in our interview with László Krisán.
This June the theme of our Reflector column is innovation, where we report on the presentations from this year’s Innovation Day event, as well as the topics of our roundtable discussions and the winners of the Inno d’Or – Innovation of the Year 2025 award. From the presentations at the event we first bring you a longer report on the VML Future 100 international research, which revealed that today brands that are able to connect with consumers are the ones that win their favour.
The Shelf Mirror column starts with the convenience product market, then moves on to pasta, ice tea and iced coffee, and the market of spirits with tequila and rum. We devote a separate section to hygiene paper products.
In our Sustainability section we report on the latest news related to environmental protection and sustainable operations. In the Vegan section – in addition to the latest news – we present the development of the alternative protein related patents market.
Besides the latest news, in our HoReCa supplement you can find a report on the annual general meeting of the Guild of Hungarian Restaurateurs (MVI), a coverage of the Gelato Day 2025 international competition by the Hungarian Confectioners’ Craft Union, and in our analytic article market players from the ice cream segment have their say. Next we focus on the beer market, where we learn about the reception of craft beers and read the annual report of the Association of Hungarian Brewers. Several articles explore topics related to hygiene in hospitality establishments. Finally, we give a detailed coverage of the 25th anniversary professional conference of the National Association of Public Sector Catering Service Providers (KÖZSZÖV) and publish our Future Talks podcast conversation with Rudolf Semsei (owner of the VakVarjú restaurant chain and Dobay confectioneries), winner of this year’s Manager of the Year for Social Responsibility award.
In our Market Analysis section you can read a meat industry analysis by the Institute of Agricultural Economics (AKI), we analyse the GKI Economic Research’s current economic index in more detail and we present the first quarterly report of the Equilibrium Institute.
In our Sales and Business Development column you can read two articles by guest authors: Sándor Baja, managing director of Randstad delivers an exclusive analysis of trends on the FMCG market and the retail sector in connection with the Randstad Awards gala (and he also introduces the winners), while Sebastian Rennack, an analyst at Aletos Retail discusses the rise of non-food discounters in Central Europe.
In June our AI column brings together the latest domestic and international news on the topic and explores the role of AI in sustainable cost reduction in a separate article.
In our In-store and Outdoor supplement – in addition to the latest news – we report on the Trade Marketing Club’s online event entitled “First-hand information from market researchers” and relaunch our series on the latest in-store tools. Here you can read about the winners of our 2025 Product of the Year competition and learn about the presentations from the related conference: Tamás Barna, owner and managing director of Republic Group summarised the criteria for good promotions, Tünde Turcsán, managing director of YouGov analysed changes in consumer attitudes, while Gábor Tolnai, head of division at Kantar Hoffmann evaluated consumer decisions in the light of exclusive focus group research data. Norbert Madar, digital commerce manager of PwC Magyarország talked about the developments in the e-commerce market.
It is needless to say that this issue also includes the latest domestic and international news, which is always covered in much greater detail in the digital edition.
