Small shops keep losing ground
Beer’s retail turnover was down 1 percent in value in the February 2009-January 2010 period. The market’s value was above HUF 102 billion. At the same time the Nielsen Retail Index registered minus 5 percent in volume, with sales at 345 million litres. Volume-weighted average price was HUF 305/litre, up 7 percent from a year earlier. The canned beer segment expanded by 3 percent to 64, while bottled beers lost 4 and were at 31 percent. Small shops lost another 3 percent of their market share and are at 36.
