On February 2, 2023, Waberer’s International Nyrt. took delivery of the country’s newest environmentally friendly truck, the locally zero-emission electric Volvo FH, in a ceremonial press conference. This is another important milestone in the history of the two companies, as this vehicle handover is not only another common point of the long-standing cooperation between Waberer’s, listed on the Budapest Stock Exchange, and Volvo Hungária Kft., but also an important step towards cleaner and more sustainable road freight transport, which is of particular importance to both companies.
In September 2021, Volvo Hungária Kft. handed over to the Waberer’s company group the country’s first mass-produced electric truck, and also the first electric truck in the company group’s fleet, an electric Volvo FL model. This was followed in November 2022 by the delivery of another mid-range electric Volvo FL type truck. In the Waberer’s fleet, the recently handed over Volvo FH model with an electric drivetrain is thus already the third of the Swedish manufacturer’s purely electric products. The electric Volvo FH that has just been handed over is a tractor unit with a 4×2 axle formula, on which a Globetrotter XL extra-high sleeper cab serves the driver’s comfort. A battery pack consisting of 6 batteries with a total capacity of 540 kWh is responsible for a range of up to 300 kilometers. The vehicle’s drivetrain consists of 3 electric motors and Volvo Trucks’ unique I-Shift automated transmission, which provides 490 kW of continuous power with zero exhaust gas emissions. It takes 10 hours to fully charge the batteries with an AC charger, and only 2 hours with a DC charger.
The electric Volvo FH is designed for fast and comfortable transport of goods between logistics hubs and large cities – and will be used for this purpose in the service of Waberer’s.
“When we took delivery of the first series-produced electric Volvo truck in the region a few years ago, it became really obvious that electromobilization has become part of road transport. We are proud that the Waberer’s group is at the forefront not only of testing new technologies, but also of implementing these alternative vehicles into daily operations. We have continuously and consciously embarked on the path of more sustainable operations in order to realize not only our own but also our customers’ green objectives. We created Waberer’s Green Division to meet these green needs to the maximum, whose task, among other things, is to research new and already deployable technologies like the one Volvo presented and handed over to us today. It is an honor for us that the first electric FH Volvo tractor also strengthens the alternative drive fleet of the Waberer’s Group, which has now expanded to 8,” said Barna Erdélyi, member of the Board of Directors of Waberer’s International Plc., listed on the Budapest Stock Exchange.
“Volvo Trucks is committed to meeting the environmental objectives of the Paris Agreement. Accordingly, Volvo Trucks has set itself the ambitious goal of reducing its carbon dioxide emissions by 50% by 2030. So our goal is that 7 years from now, every second new Volvo truck will roll off the production line with an alternative drivetrain. It gives us great pleasure that Volvo Hungária Kft. actively contributed to the realization of this goal with the electric Volvo FH model that was just handed over. We believe that with our vehicles with an alternative drive chain, we are getting closer to making the world we live in more beautiful,” said Dávid Illés, managing director of Volvo Hungária Kft. – “We are proud to sell our electric vehicles with a comprehensive service package that supports the useful operating time in a manner worthy of Volvo quality,” he added.
