Ice cream sales: the concentration process came to a halt
With annual sales above HUF 22 billion, ice cream is in the top 20 of the 90 grocery categories audited by Nielsen. Retail value sales fell 2 percent and volume sales dropped 6 percent in the April 2014-Macrh 2015 period. The concentration process of previous years came to a halt in 2014: stores with a floor space above 400m² lost 1 percentage point of their share in sales and were at 77 percent. At the same time 50m² and smaller shops saw their share climb from 5 to 6 percent. Private label products strengthened their position: after their 36-percent share in 2013 they were responsible for 39 percent of value sales in 2014.
