The turnover and reputation of Hungarian wine must be preserved
The turnover and reputation of Hungarian wine must be preserved, the Minister of Public Administration and Regional Development stated at the opening of the Veszprém County Wine Competition held at the Badacsony research station of the Institute of Viticulture and Enology of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences on Friday.
The Minister emphasized that such a wine competition can contribute to ensuring that the wines of Badacsony, Füred and other regions of the county remain not only nationally but also Europeanly renowned.
Veszprém County is proud of its viticultural and winemaking traditions, for example, that the Sümeg bourgeoisie, while still in the Zala county, established a winemaking center in Badacsony in connection with the Vincé Ramassetters, which today can be a center of innovation and development, and also provides a place for winemakers to meet.
Tibor Navracsics said: “we know that the landscape has a soul, and the caretakers and maintainers of this soul are the winemakers who have been nurturing traditions for thousands of years”. They maintain the communities and they also contribute to preserving the economic structure of the region by creating jobs and expanding the gastronomic and tourist offer through creativity and innovation – the minister noted.
Balázs Sövényházi, president of the Veszprém County branch of the National Chamber of Agriculture and Food, said in his welcoming speech: 219 wines from 65 producers are participating in the competition, of which 174 are white, 11 are rosé and 34 are red.
He added: the county has four unique wine regions, with many excellent winemakers. He called it important to make Hungarian wines popular with young people as well.
