According to MBH Bank’s latest analysis, the annual rate of inflation fell to 3.7% in June 2024, which is below the previously expected level of 4%. The level of consumer prices decreased by 0.1% compared to May, repeating the dynamics of the previous month. At the same time, core inflation rose slightly from 4% to 4.1%.
Major price changes
The price of food in the consumer basket decreased by 0.3%, while the price of vehicle fuels decreased by 3.4% on a monthly basis. Household energy prices also decreased by 2.3%, mainly due to the 4.6% price decrease of piped gas. On the other hand, the prices of services rose by 1%, which is still due to retrospective pricing. Similarly, prices for spirits and tobacco products and clothing increased by 1% and 0.3% in both categories, partly due to seasonal effects.
Annual inflation trends
On an annual level, the price formation of services is the biggest obstacle to the disinflation process, with an increase of 9.7%. Food prices increased by 1.1%, while motor fuels rose by 3.2%. The price index of durable consumer goods and household energy showed a decline, the former by 1.3%, the latter by 2.7%.
