Mastercard: the bank card is Hungarians’ favorite means of payment both at home and abroad
Mastercard has once again carried out its Bankcard Usage Habits and Attitudes research, in which it has been mapping the payment habits of Hungarians and making them traceable since 2009. Based on the current results, the physical bank card is ahead of all other payment solutions, mainly due to its speed and convenient use, moreover, the respondents feel that their money is most secure with this payment instrument.
Every year, the payment and security technology company conducts comprehensive research among the urban population between the ages of 18 and 65 who have a bank account, in which they are asked about their payment habits and the solutions available on the domestic market. Based on the results, it is clear that the popularity of bank card payments is unbroken and, in fact, has grown steadily over the past ten years. As many as 60 percent of those surveyed said that they pay this way in stores on a daily basis, but certainly several times a week. The proportion of those who do not use the card at all is only 4%. This also means that among the respondents, on average, card payments are made 11-12 times per month.
“We are constantly monitoring the latest domestic trends and we are very happy that the research data shows that the popularity of card payments seems unstoppable, whether it is in-store or online payments. Continuous innovation, in which we also try to be at the forefront, the activity of financial service providers and, of course, the regulatory environment play a prominent role in this.”
– said Endre Eölyüs, Mastercard’s director responsible for Hungary and Slovenia.
