Manufacturers of soft drinks have refuted allegations that carbonated soft drinks made with sugar are largely responsible for obesity in developed countries. Muhtar Kent, CEO of Coca Cola Co. called upon manufacturers at the InterBev 2008 conference to unite their efforts against the sector being singled out as a scapegoat for obesity. Health trends have probably played a part in the 3 percent decline in the sales of carbonated soft drinks expected this year in the US, in spite of the fact that their calorie content has been reduced by 25 percent in the last ten years.
