ALDI launched its second e-truck
ALDI Hungary is committed to pioneering environmental protection measures and solutions. After 2021, the company has already put its second electric truck into regular daily circulation, which typically serves shops located in downtown Budapest with zero local emissions.
ALDI, as the country’s most dynamically developing discount store chain, further expanded its e-fleet with a Scania truck in 2023. The three-axle truck with a total weight of 27 tons and a special cold box body is driven by a 230 kW electric motor, which is powered by nine battery packs with a nominal capacity of 300 kWh. One of the keys to ALDI’s efficient logistics processes is that the cargo space of the trucks that supply the stores consists of three sections with different temperatures: dry goods, chilled and frozen products have separate spaces, so that a single truck delivers all three product groups to the stores – thereby reducing the supply chain carbon footprint. Not only the drive of the new e-truck, but also the cooling of the cargo area is powered by the batteries.
