Sunflower prices have increased by one and a half times
In its April projection, Oil World expects a global sunflower seed harvest of 54.6 million tons in the 2024/2025 marketing year, which is 8 percent lower than in 2023/2024. Global consumption is expected to be 55 million tons, and the closing stock of the crop could be 4.1 million tons.

According to Tallage, farmers in Romania and Bulgaria started sowing sunflowers in early spring, while in Spain the sowing campaign started later than usual due to heavy rainfall. In the European Union, the area sown with sunflowers could be 4.9 million hectares in the 2025/2026 season, which would exceed the previous year by almost 1 percent. Tallage experts indicate 1.2 million hectares in Romania (–9 percent), and 770 thousand hectares in France (+1 percent).
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in Hungary, sunflower seeds were sown on 82 percent of the expected 746 thousand hectares by April 29.
According to AKI PÁIR data, processors and traders bought high-oil sunflower seeds (LO) for 207.7 thousand forints/ton (+47 percent) in the last week of April. The average producer price of industrial sunflower seeds (including high-oleic sunflower seeds) excluding VAT and transport costs was 225.8 thousand forints/ton (+55 percent).
