Cocoa forests from pastures in Amazonia
International environmental organizations and the Amazonia Fund of the Brazilian State help the local livestock farmers to plant cocoa plantations on the depleted pastures that were created by destroying of the Amazonian rainforests. The program will help to make the Amazon basin green again – origo wrote.
According to the data of the Brazilian Cocoa Producers’ Association (AIPC), some 1700 square kilometers of land have been transformed into into cocoa plantations from depleted cattle pastures. The Amazonia Fund, established by the Brazilian government through international donations, has been supported the initiative with 130 million USD. (origo)
