Auchan stores will celebrate Consumer Protection Day on March 14th
Auchan Hungary organized World Consumer Protection Day in its stores every year from 2017 until the onset of the Covid epidemic, and this tradition is being revived this year. On March 14, between 10 am and 12 pm, customers can ask their questions about consumer protection in Auchan 17 hypermarkets, where representatives of the relevant Government Offices and Mediation Bodies are also expected.
Being a consumer in today’s world is not easy, informed shopping requires awareness, and for this, information. With such a wide selection available today, this is really not easy. However, it is not unimportant whether we can buy the same product cheaper elsewhere, but we also have to consider whether we are sure to get the same quality for the lower price, whether the product is not counterfeit, for example, whether the same warranty and guarantee conditions are provided, and we could continue with countless other aspects.
Consumers are therefore protected by special legal provisions: government-level decisions, official action, and a multitude of civil consumer protection organizations ensure that their interests are harmed as little as possible. However, for the protection of interests to work, consumers also need to be aware of their rights and opportunities.
The protection of consumer rights was first publicly formulated by US President John F. Kennedy on March 15, 1962, in honor of which World Consumer Day has been celebrated on this day ever since. The US president issued a declaration in which he declared the right to safety, information, choice, and representation to be fundamental, which every citizen as a consumer has. Later, the right to be heard, to compensation, to education, and to a healthy environment were added to this. The World Consumer Protection Organization and the consumer protection offices of individual countries also developed their operations based on these.
In the years before COVID, Auchan regularly drew its customers’ attention to consumer protection. The organization of the Consumer Protection Day was put to an end by the epidemic, but the department store chain is now reviving this useful tradition. On March 14, 2025, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., Auchan. 17 stores will provide customers with the opportunity to ask questions that concern them to the experts of the Consumer Protection Authority and members of the Conciliation Boards, and to consult with them.
