There are already regular consumers of meat substitutes, according to a survey
5 percent of those surveyed regularly consume plant-based meat substitutes, almost 30 percent have already tasted such a product, and half of the others would try it – Pápai Hús Kft. told MTI on Tuesday.
According to the feedback, every fifth person follows some kind of diet, among them the proportion of vegetarians and vegans is also around 20 percent, they wrote. Based on a representative survey conducted by Pápai Hús Kft. in September, the number of meat-eaters decreases with age. Two-thirds of Hungarian households still consume meat several times a week, especially those between the ages of 50 and 65, but 43 percent observe a meat-free day, mostly for financial reasons, they added.
Based on the answers, openness to vegan food exceeds expectations – Pápai Hús Kft. evaluated the data. According to the statement, customer interest can be partially explained by curiosity, but they are also sure that consumer awareness and sustainability expectations are also important. 40 percent of those surveyed pay attention to producing less waste by consuming food, almost the same number pay attention to quality ingredients, while every third customer looks at the ingredients. One in four is even willing to pay more for healthy products – the survey reveals.
