More than 1.1 million Munch food rescue packages have already found their homes in SPAR stores
In total, more than 1.1 million Munch food rescue packages have been purchased by SPAR store customers since the innovative service was introduced in 2022. Among them, around 500 thousand bakery products and more than 400 thousand vegetable packages found their owners at up to 60 percent cheaper than the original price.
“The management of food waste is a global problem. Despite the fact that only 5% of food waste is generated in trade, SPAR Hungary treats this issue as an important part of its strategically important sustainability program. Our company joined Munch food rescue in 2022, through which remaining, but still good quality food can be delivered to our customers at significantly lower prices than the market price. After the test period, based on the positive experience, we introduced the service in all SPAR and INTERSPAR stores. Today, the practice of sorting fresh produce by considering what could go into a Munch package has become part of our employees’ daily routine. We are delighted that the program has been a great success among our customers, and more than 1.1 million food rescue packages have been purchased,”
said Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary. “
The results of the Munch and SPAR collaboration clearly demonstrate that significant progress can be made in reducing food waste. These results reflect not only our efforts, but also the commitment of our customers to saving food. Together, we are proving that even small steps can make a big difference in the fight against food waste. Based on the feedback from our community, Munch can be easily incorporated into everyday life. “Not only are we doing good for the environment, but we can also save time, energy and money while trying new foods,”
said Albert Wettstein, co-founder of Munch.
