It is already mandatory to exchange the new, marked beverage packaging in stores – but the industry has not yet delivered this
In its press release of December 27, 2023, the National Trade Association already provided detailed information on the rules for customers regarding the mandatory return of various soft drink and spirit packaging – plastic, metal, glass bottles – in stores.
In the past few days, there have been several reports that the vending machines do not work, and vouchers that cannot be used in the evening are issued in exchange for discarded drink packages.
However, the rule is simple: only what can be put into the machine for which the customer has already paid a redemption fee – no other bottles or cans
Several people tried by throwing various beverage packages into the vending machines in the first days of the year.
The new regulations, however, only apply to those types of drinks for which the manufacturer also indicates this on the packaging and bottles. These returnable packaged drinks will gradually appear on store shelves during the first half of 2024, this was not expected in the first days of the year.
Therefore, only those who have paid the redemption fee at the time of purchase will throw a beverage bottle into the vending machines, and the bottle has the required logo, inscription and the amount of the redemption fee on it.
On the part of the manufacturers, the transition to the new labeling and labeling is a time-consuming process, which is why the legislator created a grace period until the end of June for the transition.
