Promotional products must be displayed at the entrance to the shops
As we have previously reported, the government announced that food promotions will be mandatory in larger stores. The list of discounted products must be prominently displayed at the entrances of the stores.
A weekly food basket consisting of 20 products must be offered at a discount of at least 10% compared to the previous month. The regulation only applies to stores with higher revenues and will take effect on July 1.
The government cites Greece and France as examples where such regulations are already in place. In France, larger stores have voluntarily agreed to limit food prices, and random inspections of stores are ongoing. The Greek government has specifically introduced a cheaper household basket consisting of 51 products for retail chains.
