Pasta market surpasses HUF 27 billion
Annual pasta sales were up by 4 percent in August 2008-June 2009 and surpassed HUF 27 billion. In the same period volume sales stagnated around 53,000 tons, reveals the Nielsen Retail Index. This June-July 1 kg of pasta cost HUF 508 (it was HUF 522 a year ago). The market share of private labels improved (reaching 45 percent of total sales), while that of import products remained unchanged (4 percent in volume and 5 percent in value). In terms of egg content, the short 4-egg segment generates 36 percent of value sales, followed by short 8-egg pasta with 17 percent. As for retail channels, 200 m² and smaller stores realise 33 percent of sales (down 3 percentage point), followed by 401-2500 m² stores with their 31 percent share (up 2 percentage points).
