The joint pet food collection campaign of SPAR Hungary and the National Animal Welfare Foundation, “Paw in Trouble!”, which was organized for the fifth time this year, ended successfully. During the two-day event, a significant amount of donations were collected through national cooperation for animals living in shelters and waiting for their owners.

During this year’s “Paw in Trouble!” pet food collection weekend, INTERSPAR store customers donated more than 8,600 kilograms of dry food, 5,700 pieces of canned and pouched food for dogs, while 1,600 kilograms of dry food, 12,000 pieces of canned and pouched food, and 1,550 kilograms of cat litter for cats. In addition, a large amount of pet equipment and cleaning products were also received, which contributed to improving the conditions in the shelters.

One of the most important messages of the campaign this time was: every small gesture is a new opportunity for a better life, every donation, no matter how small, gives a shelter animal another chance. This year’s collection took place on May 10-11, 2025 in all INTERSPAR stores, where more than thirty non-governmental animal protection organizations accepted customer donations. The aim of the campaign was to help provide care for shelter animals and relieve the organizations of their burden – all with the selfless participation of customers.

“We would like to thank all our customers for joining this year’s collection with such enthusiasm and selflessness. Without their donations, this success would have been unthinkable. Special thanks also go to the employees and volunteers of animal protection organizations, who work tirelessly to ensure that all donations go to the best place. This collaboration clearly showed the power of good intentions. It is touching and inspiring to see that so many people stood by the animals in need,”

said Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.
