Consumer prices down 0.2 percent in May

In May like-for-like consumer prices dropped 0.2 percent according to the Central Statistical Office (KSH). In comparison with May 2015, food prices didn’t change. Sugar prices soared by 19.7 percent and seasonal product (potato, fresh fruits and vegetables) prices elevated by 8.9 percent. Pork’s price dropped 18.5 percent and milk became 7.7 percent cheaper. Alcoholic drink and tobacco product prices grew by 2.2 percent. Services were provided for 1.3 percent more, but household energy cost 0.1 percent less than in the base period. Motor fuels got 11.9 percent cheaper. Compared with April 2016, consumer prices were up 0.3 percent and food prices augmented by 0.3 percent.
