There is room and demand for expanding soybean production in Hungary

The Minister said that last year, 122 thousand hectares of applications were received for production-linked support for grain protein, and the amount paid to 5,626 clients exceeded HUF 7.8 billion. This year, the size of the application area is smaller, so the level of support may increase compared to last year.

Soybeans were grown on 87 thousand hectares of land in the country this year

This exceeds the five-year average by 22 percent, and we hope that, based on estimates based on the latest satellite information, the total yield may exceed the average of the past 5 years. Thus, based on the European Union’s estimated yield of 2.26 tons per hectare of domestic soybean, we could harvest a total of 197 thousand tons of soybean this year. The domestic production area is mainly concentrated in the western and southern Transdanubia regions, but based on data from recent years, it is also growing in the Southern Great Plain.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, there is hardly any sector in agriculture that does not require prior training, knowledge or experience, and this is especially true for soybean production.

The experts of the Hungarian Soybean and White Plant Association are helping in the transfer of knowledge, and they are promoting the production technologies of this special plant with a seven-site roadshow. The Minister emphasized that there is room and demand for expanding soybean production in Hungary, which is why we thank the organization for its work in promotion and knowledge transfer.
