Hungary is the third biggest turkey-consumer country of the world
Even though the poultry-market is not being left untouched by the crisis, Gallicoop has reached a yield of 25 billion HUF and they are about to launch new projects in the near future.
Szarvas-based Gallicoop Turkey-processing Plc. is celebrating its 20th birthday this year, CEO István Erdélyi has summed up the company's results and challenges of the future. He is convinced that the reason behind the company's success is their well-prepared domestic distribution and the high quality of their products. The fact that Hungary is the third biggest turkey-consumer country of the world (after Israel and the USA) made it possible for the turkey-market to grow faster anf faster: now the interest in turkies is five times higher than it used to be 18 years ago. Previously, pork used to be the most popular kind of meat, but health-conscious thinking led Hungarians to get more involved in the turkey-market (7 kg per citizen a year is quite a good result on an international level). Turkey has a neutral flesh and is easy to spice up with various spices, so a wide rage of consumers buy it on a regular basis.
