Hungary has been in the EU for 20 years: how have prices changed?

On May 1, 2004, ten new states joined the European Union, including Hungary. In our series of articles, we use one indicator to explore how the situation of our country has changed during our 20-year EU membership. The subject of our present article is the change in prices.

We are faced with the effects of price changes from time to time. The electricity bill is increasing, bread is more expensive in the store, our hairdresser is raising his rates. That’s perfectly fine, as long as it’s done at a low rate in parallel with rising salaries. In the developed world, the goal of central banks is to maintain slow, predictable price increases.
