Hungarians at lake Balaton
Though neither the number of guests or nights showed much change in the January-July 2007 period, compared to a year earlier, the Balaton region produced exceptionally good figures regarding domestic tourism. The number of Hungarian guests there grew by 8 per cent with a 34 per cent increase recorded in four-star hotels. Total gross revenues from accommodation reached HUF 11 billion, which is 13 per cent more than a year before, although foreign guests spent 4 per cent less money on accommodation. Three, four and five-star hotels in Hungary operated at 59 per cent capacity during the first eight months of the year. The gross room rate was HUF 17 100, with the net amount being HUF 14 300. Net revenues per room amounted to HUF 8,400 in the January – July period. Gross room revenues showed an increase of 1 per cent, while net room revenues dropped by 3 per cent, with the growth of gross revenues gradually slowing down till May and then beginning to drop.
