Hungarian Innovation Association: around 500 applications received for the 35th National Science and Innovation Olympiad
The 35th National Science and Innovation Olympiad (OTIO), a competition for 14-20 year-old high school students of the Hungarian Innovation Association (MISZ), received 60 percent more applications than last year, a total of 497, the association told MTI on Wednesday.
According to the information, the professional jury will evaluate the applications in the coming weeks, and the students who advance to the second round will have to elaborate in detail the entries with the help of mentors provided by the organizers by April 6, 2026.
The Hungarian Innovation Association (MISZ) announced the 35th National Science and Innovation Olympiad at the beginning of September, with the aim of finding and supporting scientific and innovation talents, encouraging young people to think creatively, and popularizing careers in natural sciences, engineering, technology and IT.
The novelty of this year’s competition is that in addition to the national entry, young people interested in innovation were also invited to regional selections in Budapest and 6 other large rural cities
– it was explained in the announcement.
The winners of the national final, to be held in May 2026, will receive a cash prize, and the best competitor from abroad will also receive a special prize. The authors of the winning applications will receive extra points during the admission process at Hungarian higher education institutions.
The three first-prize winners of the national final will be able to participate in the European final of the EU Young Scientists to be held in September 2026, and the best ones will also be able to go to other prestigious international competitions, including the World Science Fair (Regeneron ISEF) to be held in the United States, and they will also be able to attend the Nobel Prize award ceremony.
The competitors will also participate in the Taiwan International Science Fair, the London International Youth Science Forum, the International Wildlife Research Week organized in Switzerland, the Swiss Talent Forum also organized in Switzerland, and the Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar – informed the MISZ.
The competition is organized by the Hungarian Innovation Association with the special support of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM), with the professional participation of the State Secretariat for Public Education of the Ministry of the Interior, with the main support of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, and jointly with the National Innovation Agency.
