Magyar Élelmiszerbank Egyesület: in addition to Tesco, ALDI, METRO, Auchan, KFC, Lidl and PENNY have also become significant suppliers
In the first half of 2022, the Hungarian Food Bank Association saved and distributed 4 million kilograms of food to those in need. So far this year, 211,000 of our compatriots in need have benefited from the mostly expired or defective products that the organization collected from stores and food manufacturers. The Association continues to expand its food and life-saving network in the second half of the year, for which volunteers are also expected to apply.
The Food Bank is doing everything it can to keep up with inflation and the parallel rising needs of the needy, which is why in recent months it has added more and more commercial units to its rescue network practically every day. In addition to Tesco, ALDI, METRO, Auchan and KFC, this year Lidl and PENNY also became significant suppliers. Since the beginning of the year, the system has grown by 170 stores, an increase of more than 40%. In this way, the remaining fruits and vegetables, baked goods and other products that can no longer be marketed but are still perfectly suitable for consumption are collected every day at 576 points in the country.
