According to Gabriella Bakos-Tóth, senior designer of Coninvest Kft.’s furniture business unit, terrace furniture trends come from Italy. All the new products presented at the I Saloni trade show in Milan will be in fashion the next year. In the last few years pastel colours were popular, but they are now replaced with strong reds, yellows and greens. In Hungary a large proportion of bar and restaurant owners still buy plastic terrace furniture from Coninvest – plastic items with a great design can create an excellent, modern atmosphere in a terrace. Ms Bakos-Tóth opines that Western Europe is way ahead of us in outdoor furniture design.

Melinda Mezőfi, the head of Alex Fémbútor Kft.’s hotel-gastro division told our magazine that they also distribute the furniture of the best Italian manufacturers. She thinks pastel colours are still in fashion, together with modern, designer chairs and tables. Many types of materials are used for making terrace furniture. The company’s experience is that the it is very important for bar and restaurant owners how their terrace looks. Another important factor when purchasing terrace furniture is that items need to be weatherproof. Ms Mezőfi added that they offer pieces of terrace furniture representing the latest international design trends.

Géza Pap, managing director of Impala Bútorkereskedő Kft. told Trade magazin that for a couple of years vivid red, green, kiwi, yellow and blue colours have been dominant in terraces. In 2017 various shades of blue and green are the top trend. Aluminium furniture is used more and more widely, and the popularity of furniture that requires little care and can be moved easily is growing. Fake rattan and plastic outdoor furniture is popular because they dry quickly after a summer shower. What is more, they also ‘breathe’ on hot summer days, which is also a great advantage.

Margit Császár, store manager of Impala Bútorkereskedő Kft. is of the opinion that three things are important for furniture buying customers: quality, a trendy design and being unique. The company follows two characteristic business lines, the use of natural materials and the stressed ‘plastic character’ of plastic furniture. In the store manager’s view plastic outdoor furniture shouldn’t try to be anything else, instead it should focus on and profit from its good characteristics. There is a 1-year warranty period for the terrace furniture that Impala Kft. sells.
