Japanese conquest
The Japanese Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) has organised a seminar and tasting event in Budapest. The goal of ‘Taste of Japan in Budapest’ was to give an insight into Japanese cuisine. Eriko Sekiya, a representative of the ministry told our magazine that there are 26,000 Japanese restaurants all over the world, but 80 percent of them isn’t run by a Japanese chef. The seminar’s objective wasn’t only promoting Japanese groceries, but also passing on authentic knowledge and skills. As part of the programme, Takayuki Moriyama, head chef of Tokyo restaurant Kintsuta showed some basic ingredients of Japanese cuisine and how they are used. He even demonstrated how real sushi rice is cooked.
