Magazine: Fruits of the sea in appetising packaging
In the last five years sales of fish and fruits of the sea have been growing all over the world. Research suggests that this trend will continue at least until 2020 – demand may grow by 4 percent a year. Most shoppers want to buy processed products, which can be prepared quickly. In packaging fish, the most important thing is to stay fresh for a long time and to prevent deformation. Besides this, products also need to be displayed in an appetising fashion in-store.
Sealed Air offers efficient solutions to these problems. One of the company’s most popular technologies is Cryovac® Darfresh® vacuum packaging: it utilises two films to create a vacuum package which has a second skin appearance. Sealed Air’s Cryovac® sales manager Pierre Poncelin told that Mericq – France’s second biggest fish and fruits of the sea processing company – uses the same technology. Having switched to Cryovac® Darfresh®, not only product sales increased, but also the level of consumer satisfaction, plus less packaging material was needed to pack more products than before.
Sealed Air also started cooperation with Scanfisk, an important fish processing company in Spain, whose Mr. Fisk product range got a new packaging. Scanfisk even introduced a new brand last year in Cryovac® packaging. The Cryovac TraySkin system facilitates safe and hygienic packaging that also gives products a stylish look, thanks to which they can stand out from the crowd on store shelves – no wonder that many new customers got to know the products. What is more, thanks to the efficient packaging solution, more products can be transported in a smaller space than before. (x)
