Magazine: Sweet, sweet tea!
While tea’s popularity keeps growing, sales don’t follow this trend. Statistical data shows that green and herbal teas are strengthening their positions. Rita Habuda-Salyámosy, marketing specialist of Glatz Hungary Kft. told our magazine that in the last few years fruit and fruit-based mood teas increased their popularity. English teas such as Tetley remained popular, though: the marketing specialist recommends English Breakfast as a morning drink and Darjeeling in the afternoon. Drinking tea isn’t only a widespread habit in the United Kingdom and in the Scandinavian countries but also in Italy. There is a rather surprising trend: in traditional tea drinking countries consumption is reducing, while in coffee drinking countries tea drinking is on the rise. Ms Habuda-Salyámosy revealed that there is no aroma in high-quality tea. The Tetley brand represents both traditions and modernity – no wonder that consumers drink more than 450 million cups of Tetley in 70 countries every day! Classic black teas have stayed the same for centuries but fruit and flavoured tea trends are changing rapidly. More and more complex flavours appear on store shelves, such as Lipton’s strawberry cupcake. Drinking tea fits very well into the health trend of recent years. Fruit-flavoured herbal teas are a big hit these days, even more so because they are marketed under names such as balance, relaxation, concentration, etc. At this year’s World Tea Expo in Las Vegas both large manufacturers and small business supplying niche markets were positioning tea as a healthy drink.
