Magazine: Calm strength
Our magazine interviewed Frigyes Vomberg – chef and coach of the Bocuse d’Or Europe winner Hungarian team – on the occasion of winning this year’s Gundel Award.
– I have never won an award before so yes, I was really surprised when László Kovács, the president of the MVI told me the news and congratulated me. Although I have the 25 years of professional experience required, I had thought others had better chances for winning, for instance István Lukács or my hero, Gyula Gullner – he taught me a lot about cooking in Hotel Intercontinental.
– Probably the best thing I did was being there with Tamás Molnár B. already at the beginning of what we now call gastronomic revolution, it was me who introduced him to the team of ‘gastronomic dissenters’ such as Lajos Takács, Balázs Pető and Gábor Mogyorósi.
– We got on well with Tamás Széll at the European final in Budapest. As for the world final next year, all I can say is that I think that Tamás and Szabina Szulló’s leaving Onyx might have a positive influence on our preparation, because it makes it possible to have Szabina with us throughout the preparation phase and help our work.
