Magazine: New concept for SIAL
SIAL, the world’s biggest food innovation trade exhibition, is held every second year. This year the event will celebrates its 50th anniversary in October with nearly 6,000 exhibitors and more than 150,000 visitors with the participation of about 200 countries. In Hungary SIAL is represented by Promosalons and Trade magazin is involved in the product competition. As a change, from this year the SIAL d’Or competition is organised as World Tour by SIAL: it isn’t only innovative products that compete any more but also the related consumer trends are presented. There are still 28 competing countries and the trade magazines of each introduce 3 trends they selected and present 2 products to illustrate each trend. GfK Hungária was our magazine’s partner in picking and introducing the trends. All the trends presented could be grouped into 8 world trends: demand for convenience products has grown everywhere, in many countries there are more and more people living with some kind of food sensitivity or allergy, and there is a group of consumers who feel safe if they prepare their own food at home. Innovations: Australia brought Vetta pasta, the extra protein content of which can be very helpful to those on a special diet. SteamFresh flavoured rice and risotto products were also exciting – and not only because of their pyramid-shaped bags. Austria came with a surprising salami: Tauretti Energy Stick solves the problems of those who don’t like the taste of energy drinks but want the taurin in them. Pyramidky koření Vitana from the Czech Republic is a convenience product, unground spices are packaged in tea bag-like little holders and offered for various international dishes. Original egg, a convenient ready to eat egg is a snack in the UK, while Mornflake Superfast is basically various types of muesli and milk powder in a cup, to which consumers only have to add hot water. Hungary competed with pálinka-filled Bonbonetti Christmas fondant candy and Hungerit roast duck in the premium product category. Eisberg BBQ grill mix vegetables and Gergely Pasta’s quick-frozen gluten-free plum dumplings and cottage cheese dumplings were present in the convenience category, while the Pa-Comp walnut substitute and Zimbo gluten-, glutamate-, soy- and lactose-free cucumber bologna entered the competition in the safe food category. Congratulations to Hungerit for their product being the most successful among panel members! Between 19 and 23 October 250 programmes will be waiting for trade visitors at SIAL. Results of the World Tour by SIAL, the TOP3 products will also be announced there.
