Magazine: Who needs coaching?
The first and simplest answer to the above question that comes to mind is: Everyone. As a matter of fact, I do think that coaching is a tool that makes one’s work easier and because of this it also has a positive influence on their private life. Coaching is a kind of support that you need not when you have problems: you need it not to have any problems. It helps you to make decisions consciously and forces you to see yourself from an external point of view.
One of my coachees, a top manager of a major company found themselves in a difficult situation. They felt they couldn’t communicate well with their boss, so at first the focus of the coaching work was on improving their communication. As time was passing it turned out that it wasn’t words they couldn’t find but their place in the corporate system: they were a free spirit, not a cog in a wheel. We managed to establish a vision for them together during the sessions and finally they quit their job. Stunning,
isn’t it?
Well, my view is that each party was better off this way: the company let an unmotivated employee go, while the person got the chance to use their talent and skills in a way that they feel well in their own skin. This is the reason why everyone needs coaching – to be able to decide whether to stay or go and to take the necessary steps. I am glad to accompany people walking down this road.
