Magazine: NÉBIH starts using an INTELligent solution
The National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH) has started using a new data analytics system, which helps the authority to monitor the whole supply chain: the Intelligent Food Chain Safety Analytics System (Intel) was developed with HUF 3.8-billion funding from the European Union and launched last year. At the moment the complex system is being tested and improved, work is expected to be completed by November 2018.
NÉBIH president Márton Oravecz emphasised that their goal isn’t to impose fines but to correct mistakes and reduce risks. However, there is big difference between mistakes and breaking the law on purpose. The authority will do its best to ‘whiten’ the grey and black economies. In order to be able to do this with greater efficiency, NÉBIH needed a tool like Intel very much. Intelligent data analytics make it easier for them to prevent risk situations. Mr Oravecz added: after drug trafficking, counterfeit food is the second most lucrative illegal business in the world. This is the reason why NÉBIH also established a Directorate of Special Cases that works with 92-percent efficiency.
NÉBIH head of department Péter Zarka told our magazine that they also use data from the Electronic Public Road Trade Control System (EKÁER) to find out whether a food producer uses illegal ingredients. With the help of Intel, the authority will also be able to monitor how livestock is bred. When developing Intel, NÉBIH made sure that the system contains sensitive data too. Intel will definitely make it possible for the authority to react faster to events.
