Magazine: 21st-century adventures
Unlike 30 or 40 years ago, nobody is horrified today to see premium quality French cognac or calvados being mixed with soft drinks. Calvados brand Boulard sent Vincent Boulard to Budapest at the end of January to speak about the drink that is made exclusively in Normandy.
The Boulard family makes 5 abv cider from 120 types of apple using no agent at all, which is distilled twice and put in 400-litre French oak barrels – they are responsible for adding the vanilla flavour. Boulard is a real 21st-century company: they are active in technological development and good at marketing. In order to popularise calvados, they use the concept of remixing classic cocktails such Manhattan or Mojito with calvados instead of the original main ingredient.
