The World Science Forum starts in Budapest today
The World Science Forum (WSF) begins today in Budapest, with the theme this year being the relationship between science and policy in times of global transformation.
The forum, which has been held every two years since 2003 and is hosted by Budapest every four years, is expected to bring together nearly five hundred scientists and science policy makers from over a hundred countries. The conference is under the patronage of President Tamás Sulyok, and hosted and organized by Tamás Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
At the global meeting, which will address current issues that will shape the future of the scientific community, society, politics and the economy, participating scientists, policy experts and representatives of international scientific organizations will discuss how to promote the application of scientific achievements in policy measures in 19 plenary and thematic sessions, with nearly one hundred presentations.
The opening of the WSF2024 will be held at the Müpa, where the UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for the Environment will be awarded. The opening lecture of the event series will be given by Széchenyi Prize-winning evolutionary biologist Eörs Szathmáry, entitled The Synthesis of Artificial Life.
As part of the world forum, which runs until Saturday, the Science Expo will be held at the Museum of Fine Arts from November 21-23. The interactive exhibition presents the joint results of Hungary’s leading universities, research institutes and actors in the economic sector.
