Luxury hobby attracts crowds to the shores of Lake Balaton
In Hungary, more and more people are discovering the joys of surfing, and the sport’s popularity is constantly growing. This is not surprising, since it is possible to surf in several lakes of our country, from Lake Balaton to Lake Fertő and up to Lake Orfűi and Lake Tisza. Surfing is not only a sport, but also a lifestyle that brings people closer to nature, while conquering the waves presents new challenges for everyone.
According to Loránd Utassy, the national captain of the Hungarian surfing team, interest in the sport is constantly growing, and today it is easy to learn the basics, especially on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, where there are several surfing schools and associations. The national team captain emphasized that it is worth getting to know the sport in an organized framework, for example in surfing camps, in order to avoid disappointments and learn to surf safely, Pénzcentrum points out.
In Hungary, there are currently 150-300 people surfing at the athlete level, many of whom practice the sport not only as a hobby, but also competitively. In the recent period, Hungarian surfing has also achieved serious international successes, for example Simon Hanna’s 7th place at the U19 World Championships and Bori Bósza’s bronze medal at the U19 World Championships held on Lake Balaton.
According to the national team captain, even though Hungary does not have a coast, the Hungarian surfers do everything they can to catch up with the competitors of the coastal nations. To this end, Hungarian surfers train in foreign training camps in winter, for example in Spain, so that they can continuously improve.
