Flour, eggs and pasta on top of the price wave
Consumer prices showed an average increase of 0.7 per cent in September 2007. According to KSH data, prices were 6.4 per cent up compared to September 2006. Food prices were 2.2 per cent higher in September than in August. The prices of flour and eggs rose by 14.9 per cent and 7.8 per cent respectively, while the price of pasta was up by 7.7 per cent. Compared to September 2006, food prices show a higher than average increase at 9.8 per cent. Below average price rises have been recorded for tobacco and alcoholic beverages.
