Cooking oil on top
Consumer prices were up by 0.6 per cent in March, compared to February and 6.7 per cent higher than in March 2007. According to a KSH report, food prices were up by 0.4 per cent in March, compared to February. Among food products, cooking oil produced the highest price rise with 2.7 per cent, while the prices of seasonal foods also increased. The prices of salami, dry sausage, eggs and ham were down by 2-3 per cent. Food prices rose at a faster than average rate (12.3 per cent) in the March 2007-March 2008 period, with cooking oil and flour producing the highest price increase.
