Magazine: Step by step towards a healthier life
Large fast food chains are rapidly adapting to consumer trends and pressure from society, for instance in fighting obesity and excessive salt usage. Last December Burger King changed the recipe – used since 1998 – of their French fries: they did not only reduce its salt content but also its diameter; what is more, by using a new type of coating fries stay hot and crispy longer. McDonalds started giving sliced apples with Happy Meals and reduced the size of their French fry portion, thereby lowering the menu’s calorie content by 20 percent. McDonald’s units in San Francisco reacted to the banning of free toys with high-calorie children’s meals by selling toy figures for USD 2.18 to collectors and for 10 cents with Happy Meals.
