Agricultural prices swinging
Supply prices of agricultural products were down by 8.8 percent in September 2008, compared to September 2007. The price of plant products was down by 22.2 percent, while that of livestock and animal products was up by 9.3 percent. Prices were up by 11 percent in the first nine months of 2008, compared to the same period in 2007. Grain prices were down by 35.6 percent in September. The price of potato was down by 25.6 percent, while the average price of vegetables was up by 11.4 percent. Fruit prices were down by 28.5 percent, mainly as a result of a 52.7 percent drop in the price of apple. The 11.6 increase in the price of livestock was the result of a 13.6 percent rise in the price of swine, a 11.8percent rise in the price of poultry and a 2.5 percent rise in the price of cattle. The price of eggs was up by 12.6percent, while that of milk was 3.4 percent higher.
