The food industry is booming
Hungary’s food industry has faced numerous difficulties in recent years, but thanks to the solid foundations, it is showing an improving trend in terms of efficiency and profitability, stated Dr. Beáta Felkai, Deputy Secretary of State responsible for food chain supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the XV. At the National Trade Conference in Siófok.
She drew attention to the fact that one of the main goals of the food industry is still to ensure that the food supply is predictable and stable in all circumstances, in addition to high quality and a large selection of products. For this, it is necessary to ensure the appropriate conditions for production, to know the commercial characteristics and the needs of consumers. In addition to the domestic market, export and its promotion are also a priority task. Dr. Beáta Felkai emphasized that, from 2014 to December 31, 2021, a total of HUF 516.5 billion in food industry support contributed to stabilizing the income of sector players, reducing risks and improving their financing situation. Of this, 166.5 billion forints were awarded in the framework of subsidies financed purely from national sources, and 316.7 billion from EU sources. The new calls announced in 2021, which proved to be a great success, will further help the development of the sector’s competitiveness. The goal is for Hungarian food products to be in demand both at home and abroad!
At the event, Márton Oravecz, the president of Nébih, also gave a welcome speech, and he shed light on the current situation and future vision from the perspective of supply security and food safety.
