Oral care category gains momentum
Combined sales of toothpaste, toothbrush, mouth wash and electric toothbrush exceeded HUF 23 billion last year – they were worth 5 percent more than in 2015.
TOOTHPASTE: last year toothpaste was sold in a value of more than HUF 14 billion. Like-for-like value sales were up 2 percent but volume sales dropped 3 percent. Drugstores’ share in sales augmented by 1 percentage point to 42 percent. Manufacturer brands were responsible for 97 percent of sales.
TOOTHBRUSH: the size of the annual market went above HUF 4 billion last year. Like-for-like value sales rose by 8 percent and volume sales increased by 6 percent. Drugstores’ share in sales grew from 48 percent to 50 percent.
MOUTH WASH: last year mouth wash was sold in the value of more than HUF 3.5 billion. Like-for-like value sales were up 11 percent; volume sales rose 9 percent. 44 percent of value sales was realised by drugstores. 90 percent of products sold were manufacturer brands.
ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH: value sales were bigger than HUF 1 billion last year. Like-for-like value sales improved by 14 percent and volume sales got 13 percent better. Drugstores strengthened their position in this segment too: their share in value sales rose from 62 percent to 68 percent.
