Slovak cattle breeders give up caging
Slovak egg producers today have agreed to abandon cage-laying and switch to alternative technologies from 2030, according to an agreement with the Minister of Agriculture and merchants, – magyarnemzet.hu wrote. Consumers will certainly not be delighted with the decision, as the switch-over will entail significant costs.
It has been pointed out on several occasions by industry experts in several forums that the quality of eggs does not depend primarily on the method of rearing, but rather on feeding. Cage keeping is not worse than animal welfare and food safety conditions, such as deep litter rearing. In addition, cage housing is significantly more advantageous than alternative methods in preventing various diseases such as salmonella. (Köpöncei Csilla, magyarnemzet.hu)
