Biggest price increase for potato chips
Retail sales of snacks grew by 8 per cent last year compared to the previous year and exceeded HUF 33 billion. ACNielsen has registered a 6 per cent increase in quantity, bringing the total to over 28 thousand tons. The two biggest segments (traditional and peanuts) account for 60 per cent of sales in the category. In terms of value, potato chips is the most important product in the category. Its total market is over HUF 9 billion and sales grew by 11 per cent last year. Average prices are diverse. While the prices of extruded products declined and popcorn showed stagnation, potato chips became 11 per cent more expensive. The market share of private labels grew from 29 per cent a year earlier to 31 per cent. The 401-2500 square meter channel grew by 1 per cent at the expense of hyper markets, while traditional stores still held 40 per cent.
