János Lázár urges stricter legislation regarding the Fanta scandal
The news that the Fanta soft drink sold in Hungary contains significantly less orange juice than the versions available in other European countries received a great response in the Hungarian press. According to János Lázár, the Minister of Construction and Transport, it is unacceptable that international food industry companies sell lower quality products in Hungary, which is why it is necessary to tighten the legal regulations.
Coca-Cola has confirmed that Fanta has different compositions in accordance with different laws and market needs in each country. According to the company, the juice content of the products available in each country is similar to similar soft drinks available in the local market and are in accordance with the applicable local regulations. In addition, Coca-Cola announced that they are constantly working to reduce the sugar content of their products, which can also affect the taste and composition of drinks available in different countries, Index reports.
In his social media post, János Lázár emphasized that the health of the Hungarian people is at stake, and it is unacceptable that “Hungarians only get Hanta instead of Fanta”. According to the minister, it is necessary for consumers to be able to track the food’s journey, and a unified action must be taken against commercial players who exploit suppliers and harm customers.
